Trisikad driver accused of raping, robbing woman

-
A trisikad driver was recently indicted for allegedly raping then robbing in a Naga seashore a 32-year-old woman, who was traveling from Cebu City to that town three months ago.

Provincial prosecutor Pepita Petralba approved the filing of a complex crime of robbery with rape against Charlie Caparoso, a trisikad driver who is a native of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur. No bail has been recommended for his temporary liberty.

Caparoso was accused by the woman of robbing and raping her around 4:30 am last February 19 by the seashore in South Poblacion, Naga.

The victim, a resident of barangay Mabolo in Cebu City, said that she went to deliver money to her brother in Pangdan, Naga, but while in the bus she fell asleep and when awakened she was already at a place past Poblacion, Naga, where she was supposed to disembark.

She ordered the bus to stop and when she alighted, she saw the trisikad of Caparoso who she then hired to take her back to Poblacion where she would take another ride for Pangdan.

However, Caparoso allegedly took her instead towards the seashore prompting her to jump off from the trisikad.

But Caparoso allegedly grabbed and forced her to the ground. She said she tried to fight back but Caparoso allegedly strangled her then punched her abdomen repeatedly until she lost consciousness.

The victim said that when she regained consciousness she was already naked with her pants and underwear beside her but Caparoso was no longer there. She later found that the assailant also took her P1,700 cash, two cellular phones, jewelry, and other personal items.

A middle-aged woman chanced upon her and brought her to the Naga Police Station, narrated the victim. - Fred P. Languido
