Barangay tanod falls to death
May 16, 2006 | 12:00am
A barangay tanod died after he fell from the roof deck of the Zapatera Barangay Hall yesterday dawn while he was urinating.
Arturo Rubinos, 62, a resident of Jakosalem Street in barangay Zapatera, was asleep together with his fellow barangay tanods in the roof deck above the third floor of the barangay hall while waiting to respond to alarms.
Apparently, Rubinos woke up to urinate and fell from his precarious position on the roof deck due to his sleepiness. He landed in the yard of a certain Castor Mendoza, who called up Rubinos' wife, Marcelina, who is also a worker at the barangay hall.
Marcelina and one of her sons rushed to the scene and found Rubinos no longer breathing. Repeated attempts at mouth-to-mouth resuscitation failed to revive him and they decided to call the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation, which brought Rubinos to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.
Zapatera barangay captain Frank Benedicto said that Rubinos had been serving as a barangay tanod for the past 12 years now.
