4 barangays have child prosti dens

A locally based non-government organization has identified four more barangays in Cebu City that have child prostitution dens, with some children used as couriers/runners in the illegal drug trade.

Aside from barangay Kamagayan, which is already known for its prostitution activities, Nazareth Children Center has identified Pasil, Suba, Ermita and Carreta in Pier 6 area as the other four barangays with children-sex workers.

Fe Segismar, project coordinator of Nazareth Children Center, reported in the recent weekly "Kapihan ni Ate Glo" that they have identified about 83 children, aged 12 to 17 years old, in the four barangays who are engaged in prostitution.

Segismar said that if prostitution in barangay Kamagayan, whether of legal ages or below 18, is tolerated by parents, some parents in the four other identified barangays reportedly are not aware of the activities of their children.

The report also mentioned that these child prostitutes are just victims of peer pressure, especially around homosexual friends who reportedly recruit customers and push the victims to engage in sex acts with these so-called customers.
