Although the truck boy was identified as Alfredo Cabaral the police failed to identify the truck driver who was unconscious even as the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation extricated him from the cab of the truck where he was pinned after it hit a Gemelina tree.
The truck, with plate number GLS-954, belongs to the Panico Construction firm. It was loaded with stones, sacks of cement and plastic pipes that was supposed to be delivered to barangay Busay for an ongoing riprapping construction.
Peter Heridia, a foreman of the construction site, said that they were expecting the delivery noon yesterday, but by 2 p.m. they started to worry and called their office in barangay Panadtaran, San Fernando town, to get the whereabouts of the delivery.
The office told him to consider the worst-case scenario and check for reports of accidents as the driver they sent was reportedly not familiar with the road to Busay.
Later they found the truck that had crashed against a Gemelina tree, they surmised the brakes were lost as the driver was negotiating a downhill turn.
