-
Two persons, including a barangay tanod, were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and theft, respectively, during the commemoration of the 485th "Kadaugan sa Mactan" yesterday.

The barangay tanod, identified as Vicente Gudines, was detained by elements of the Presidential Security Group for allegedly carrying a .38 caliber revolver during the celebration.

The PSG operatives were conducting inspection when they chanced upon Gudines carrying the unlicensed gun with five live ammunition. The suspect is now detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station.

Meanwhile, a certain Jonathan Lastimosa, a Barili town native who is currently residing in Punta Princesa, Cebu City, was arrested for allegedly stealing six cellular phones from spectators of the celebration.

One of the victims, Editha Uchia, told police that her friend saw the suspect take her cell phone, which he then passed to his three accomplices. Lastimosa is now detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station. - Nancy Marie C. Dael, UP Masscom intern
