Mandaue City schools get ovens and computers

Seven ovens and five computers donated by Swiss national and philanthropist Dr. Fritz Strolz and his wife Pearle Cañares-Strolz were turned over to various schools in Mandaue City through the help of Mayor Thadeo Ouano and his wife, Linda.

The turnover ceremony that was also attended by heads of the nine recipient-schools and barangay officials was held at the Tipolo Elementary School gymnasium yesterday.

The seven ovens were distributed to Looc Elementary School, Tipolo Elementary School, Guizo Elementary School, Canduman Elementary School, Tabuk Elementary School, Opao Elementary School and Mandaue City Comprehensive High School.

Meanwhile, four of the computers went to Tipolo National High School and one was given to the Mandaue City College which will open this June.

Ouano, in his speech said, "We want to show our appreciation to the people who came all the way from Switzerland to help us because we really need all the help we can get."

Strolz and his wife started this benevolent gesture 10 years ago in other areas in the province and this year is their third time to donate equipment to several schools in Mandaue City.

It was in 2003 that they first donated seven computers to Mandaue. Ten sewing machines and 11 computers followed in the succeeding year.

"Sharing has no language and no race. It is simply from the heart. The reason why we do this is because we want to help the youth. And it is worthy to support the innovative ideas of the mayor," Mrs. Strolz said during the ceremony.

She said that it was Mrs. Linda Ouano who contacted and asked them if they could donate some school equipment, which they granted right away.

Dr. Strolz added that they were also lucky to get help from other international foundations, which were generous enough to support them in this project. - Sheila Peñafort
