Gaisano heiress among 10 outstanding students

- Wenna Berondo -
Glenda Mae Uy Gaisano, daughter of business tycoon Benito Sy Gaisano and Gina Uy Gaisano has been chosen as one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines - Region 7 recently.

This is the fifth major award bagged by Glenda Mae in a span of two years. The award was given last April 7 during a ceremony held at the Bohol Plaza Resort in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Glenda Mae graduated Magna Cum Laude in the field of accountancy from the University of San Carlos last March 25. During graduation she also received the 2006 Outstanding Graduate Award.

She was also elected an officer in the Supreme Student Council and in the University of San Carlos Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants. She also received the 2005 Outstanding Leader Award and the Outstanding JPIAN award during the annual national convention held in the Development Academy of the Philippines in Tagaytay City held in April 2005.

Glenda Mae is the granddaughter of the late philanthropist Henry Gaisano and the great granddaughter of the late Doña Modesta Singson Gaisano. She is also the maternal granddaughter of Mrs. Rosita Uy.

The annual search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines or TOSP was launched on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Philippine national hero Jose P. Rizal last June 19, 1961 when businessman Jose Concepcion Jr. first envisioned an annual recognition for students who can be held as role model for others.

It is an annual search for exceptional students and aims to recognize graduates from colleges and universities around the country who display firm moral convictions as well as exemplary performance in academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and community service.
