MCWD cited as outstanding water district in the country

- Wenna Berondo -
The Metro Cebu Water District recently received four awards from the Local Water Utilities Administration, foremost of which was the outstanding water district award.

The three other citations were special award for integrated watershed development program, for its regional training center, and for being nominated in the search for most outstanding water district of the year in 2005.

These awards made MCWD one of the most awarded water districts in the country due to its efforts and commitment in fulfilling its mandate of providing safe, potable and affordable water to its concessionaires.

LWUA administrator Lorenzo Jamora conferred the awards during the LWUA-Water District Forum last March 23 at the Manila Hotel. MCWD general manager Armando Paredes received the award in behalf of the water district.

MCWD got the outstanding award, in the very large category in the Bicol-Visayas region, for exemplary performance in providing water service to its community with sustained superior levels of institutional and financial viability for the year 2005.

It also won the special award for integrated watershed development program for its lead role in the development, management and protection of watershed through sustained implementation of integrated watershed program.

It further received a certificate of recognition from LWUA for being a nominee in the search for the most outstanding water district for the year 2005.

The MCWD regional training center, for its part, received a plaque of appreciation in recognition of its commitment by training and upgrading the knowledge and skills of water district's personnel for the improvement of the water services to the communities in the region and the country.

In 1998 and 2000, LWUA conferred the MCWD the most outstanding water district award, in the very large water district category.

And for three consecutive years, from 2000 to 2002, MCWD was a consistent recipient of the most outstanding accredited agency in Region 7 for "continuously advocating and religiously following the tenets and doctrine of the merit and fitness principle in the Civil Service."

With these awards, the Civil Service Commission elevated MCWD to the Hall of Fame, despite the district's being the youngest agency to join the government service.
