The inmates were identified as Julius Flores, of barangay Lorega-San Miguel, and Laureto Padilla, of sitio Bato in barangay Ermita. Flores sustained a stab wound in the left shoulder and forehead after being mauled by Padilla and his fellow inmates of Cell No.4.
BBRC Warden Efren Nemeño said that the mauling incident took place just as the inmates were lining up for their food.
Kitchen worker Anthony Cancio reportedly got irked when he saw Padilla insert himself into the line of his fellow inmates who were lining up for their food.
When the kitchen personnel confronted Padilla, he called on his fellow Cell No. 4 inmates to defend him, but it prompted the kitchen workers to maul him that cut his forehead.
As the mauling continued, Padilla's fellow inmates mistook Flores, who happened to pass by on his way to Cell No. 5, as a kitchen worker and took turns mauling him.
One of Padilla's companions, a certain Ginos Andos, was identified as the one who stabbed Flores in his left shoulder using a knife.
But Nemeno said that Flores is not filing a case against Padilla's group since the incident has been settled. - Flor Z. Perolina
