Policemen arrest SCR drag racer
March 19, 2006 | 12:00am
Talisay City Police arrested yesterday one of the four men who were caught drag racing in Talisay City's part of Cebu South Coastal Road.
Rex Cañada, 25, a resident of barangay Mohon, is now detained at the Talisay City Substation after he reportedly tried to hit a policeman with his motorcycle after he was arrested.
According to SPO3 Noel Factores the traffic division asked for the assistance of the alert team to apprehend drag racers in the area.
Yesterday dawn there were four drag racers caught in the act, however, only Cañada was brought to the police station after he allegedly tried to escape and almost hit SPO3 Romeo Hurboda in the process.
Hurboda would have been hit had not PO3 Rico Emperwa pulled him out of harm's way in time.
The other three racers were each issued a Temporary Operator's Permit then released.
The coastal road, which is closed to motorists after 7 in the evening, has become a haven for drag racers.
The city council has long approved an ordinance prohibiting drag racing in any part of the city especially in the coastal road where it poses dangers to both motorists and pedestrians. In fact, the city turns off the lights in this side of the road to discourage such activities.- Liv G. Campo
