BSP-Cebu bares its diamond jubilee year activities

The Cebu Council of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines yesterday launched its Diamond Jubilee celebration this year and has lined up a series of activities for the event.

BSP Cebu Council Chairman Hernando Streegan said that BSP Cebu will have its 59th annual council meeting at the DepED Ecotech Pavillion in Lahug this Saturday for its annual reports and election of members of the executive board.

Streegan said that a council court of honor would follow on October 28, wherein scout masters will be given recognition for their achievements in the promotion of scouting and undying commitment for the welfare of young boys to become good citizens in their communities.

On December, around 4,000 boy scouts are expected to gather in sitio Looc in Malabuyoc town for its Diamond Jubilee Jamborette.

The jamborette is aimed at developing among scouts the awareness that they belong to an organization and to promote friendship with other scouts. Outstanding scouts from the Cebu Council will also be awarded during the jamborette.

There will also be an annual youth forum and a jamboree on the internet, which will take place on the third weekend of October. This activity will help scouts communicate with their counterparts in other parts of the world.

There will also be a poster making contest and a balak and harana contest among scouts to further develop their talent.

BSP- Cebu is on its 60th year of service to Cebu's scouts especially the young with around 1.8 million members. From funds amounting only to P300 in 1946, the council has grown with funds reaching P17 million at present.
