Brownouts to hit Cebu to facilitate upgrading

Brownouts will hit several areas of Metro Cebu today and tomorrow due to the scheduled upgrading and maintenance of primary lines by the Visayan Electric Company.

From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, New Imus Road, T. Padilla, part of Sikatuna, Bonifacio and Parian streets will have no power while part of Katipunan Street and the entire Esperanza Village in Labangon will also experience brownouts from 6 a.m. to 12 noon for the pole and line upgrading activities.

On Sunday, several areas of Cebu City and Mandaue as well as the towns of Liloan and Consolacion will also experience power interruptions in relation to the National Transmission Corporation's preventive maintenance shutdown of its Compostela plant.

Due to this, VECO will facilitate switch and load transfer to minimize the duration of the interruption.

Brownouts ranging from 30 minutes to one hour in the morning and in the afternoon will affect Mandaue, Paknaan, Consolacion and Banilad substations.

In Mandaue City, the barangays of Alang-Alang, Bakilid, Banilad, Basak, Basubas, Casuntingan, Canduman, Cubacub, Estancia, Labogon, Mantuyong, Maguikay, Opao, Pagsabungan, Paknaan, Tipolo, Tabok, Tawason and Umapad will be affected.

The barangays of Jagobiao, Ginabsan, Sacsac and Poblacion in Consolacion and Tugbungan, Casili, Pulpogan, Danlag, Garing, Panoypoy, Cansaga, Lamac, Jugan, Tayud, Bajac, Poblacion, Liloan, Catarman, Jubay, Cotcot and Cabadiangan in Liloan will also experience brownouts.

In Cebu City, Gen. Maxilom Avenue, Echavez, Gorordo Avenue, Escario, Cardinal Rosales Avenue, F. Sotto, Archbishop Reyes Avenue, including portions of J. Luna Avenue, Acacia, barangay Son-oc, Sudlon, Opra, Kalunasan, Beverly Hills, Hipodromo, and Sindulan in barangay Mabolo will also be affected. - Wenna A. Berondo
