DPWH warns Toledo-bound trucks of Manipis Rd risks

The Manipis Road is a risky route for heavy and loaded trucks because it is not wide enough and proximate to landslide-prone mountain slopes, warned the Department of Public Works and Highways to truck drivers going to Toledo City and other towns.

Cebu Second District Engineering head Daisy Toledo said she recently requested acting regional director Victor Gador of the Land Transportation Office to take appropriate actions in enjoining truckers from frequent use of the Manipis Road.

Toledo told The Freeman that the DPWH would rather have these trucks pass by the weigh bridge station in barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla town for constant monitoring of loads of the trucks to determine also the life span of the road.

Toledo said however some drivers taking the Manipis Road could not be blamed because the other route, the Naga-Uling Road, is still currently under repair.

But there have been speculations that some of them did so to avoid the weigh bridge station in Minglanilla, the records of which might cause them problems when they renew their trucks' registration at the LTO.

Engr. Paz Adlawan, planning officer of Cebu Second Engineering, said engineering personnel have been keeping constant monitoring of trucks and trailers laden with cargoes that exceeded the allowable limit and conveniently skip the weigh bridge station.

Adlawan said reports on this matter were already sent to LTO for imposition of penalties against truck owners when they renew the registration of their vehicles. - Ferliza C. Contratista
