The Lapu-Lapu City council commended the officers and men of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station for exemplary performance leading to the selection as Best City Police Station in the country.
The city council also commended P/Supt. Louie Oppus, the city police chief, for his exemplary leadership in obtaining such prestigious recognition.
The basis for the performance rating leading to the award was the Annual General Inspection conducted last year by the Philippine National Police.
The twin resolutions sponsored by councilor Damian Gomez stated that the performance would not have been made possible if not for the sincere effort and dedication of the officers and men in responding to crimes efficiently which won the trust and confidence of the community.
The resolutions also said that Oppus is leading officers and men by examples in the pursuit of excellence in the performance of their work.
The Lapu-Lapu city police station was able to effect commendable success in reducing crime rates in both index and non-index crimes and increase crime solution rate to 97 percent with regards to non-index crimes.
"Through the initiative of P/Supt. Oppus, the city police force has significantly improved its visibility in the community and response capability by establishing four precincts in very strategic areas in the city," the resolution read, which was approved en masse during the council's regular session last Tuesday.
The resolution stated that the Lapu-Lapu city police station through Oppus has installed high-technology equipment that greatly improved the communication system and police administrative services to the community.
It further stated that through meetings, conferences and symposia, Oppus was able to establish a very strong relationship with the community that supports police programs, activities and works. - Mitchelle P. Calipayan
