Boulder kills sleeping farmer
January 11, 2006 | 12:00am
A farmer who lived at the foot of a hill in sitio Acacia, barangay Jaclupan, Talisay City, was killed after a boulder fell on him while he was sleeping early morning yesterday.
Residents of the said place brought Pablo Canada to Talisay District Hospital to try to save him but doctors declared him dead on arrival after suffering a head fracture.
Pablo's half-brother Abundio Cabigas said Pablo was sleeping in the kitchen of his house while his wife and their four children slept inside their room. He said Pablo's wife even pleaded with Pablo to sleep with them, but for some reason Pablo refused.
That night a rock loosened by rains since Monday evening dislodged from the hill and crashed down to where Pablo was sleeping.
Pablo's wife said she only realized something was wrong when she heard a groan after a big thud. When she came to investigate she found her husband pinned under a rock.
Former Jaclupan barangay captain Crisencia Abatayo said there are big rocks in the hill of that place that are in danger being dislodged since there are no trees to support them, but she added this death is the first of its kind there.
