Victims of sea mishap to get aid from Capitol

The family of a couple and their son who were killed when a motorized banca capsized at Cayongan Reef in barangay North Granada, Boljoon town on New Year's day will receive financial assistance from the provincial government.

This after Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday said she had directed Provincial Social Welfare Officer Marivic Garces to work on the immediate release of financial assistance to the family of the victims.

Garcia also assured that the provincial government would provide P5,000 for the burial expenses of each of the fatalities.

She also directed Garces to look into the needs of other victims now confined at a district hospital.

The motorized banca, which had a capacity of only three persons, capsized due to overloading, according to police investigation. Eight people were reportedly onboard the small boat when it capsized.

Those killed in the incident were Marlon Abriol, 26, his live-in partner Lucena Licayan, 26, and their eight-year-old son Wendell. Five people, including a one-year-old girl, have survived. - Jose P. Sollano
