Robber shoots couple, helper

A couple and their store helper landed in the hospital after they were shot upon by a lone gunman inside the New Medellin Public Market in barangay Poblacion, Medellin town Sunday night.

Gaudioso and Merlita Godinez, and store helper Andres Sumabong were brought to a private hospital in Cebu City after sustaining injuries in different parts of their bodies.

SPO1 Manuel Allan Tan of the Medellin police said the victims were about to close their store inside the market when the gunman approached Merlita, who was standing nearby, and tried to grab her bag containing their day's income.

But Gaudioso, who noticed the man, quickly grabbed the bag from his wife, but the gunman pulled out a gun and shot the couple and their helper.

Merlita was hit near her right hand while Gaudioso sustained a gunshot wound in his neck. Sumabong, who is now in critical condition, was hit in his abdomen. - Flor Z. Perolina
