Benaojan pal reports another death threat

-
A witness to the killing of Bantay Radyo reporter George Benaojan said he received another death threat by text.

Adriano Llanos, in an interview with Bantay Radyo, said one of his close friends received the threat and forwarded it to him last Friday.

Llanos said that message said he will be killed just before Benaojan will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. today in his hometown in Moalboal.

Prior to the threats, Llanos said he and his family saw a suspicious-looking man wearing a wig passing by their house.

The threats have prompted provincial police chief Vicente Loot to provide him and his family 24-hour security as he is a vital witness to Benaojan's killing. Loot also said that they are helping Llanos avail of the witness protection program of the Department of Justice.

Even with all the threats that he has received Llanos vowed to testify in court. He also plans to attend Benaojan's burial today.

Llanos was talking to Benaojan outside his stall at the South Central Market in Talisay City last December 1 when the alleged gunman Roberto "Jinky" Jagdon shot him three times at close range hitting him in the mouth, left thigh and chest. Benaojan was brought to Chong Hua Hospital where he died two and a half hours later. - Flor Z. Perolina
