Belmonte urges Jaycees to be active in community

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte Jr. urged members of the Junior Chamber International Metro Cebu to be active in community activities, pay taxes diligently, and be law-abiding.

Mayor Belmonte made this call as the guest speaker of the Jaycee's 20th Charter Anniversary and Induction Ceremonies at the City Sports Club Cebu last Saturday night.

Belmonte, who was a 1976 JC President, said that since most of the members of Jaycees are into business, they should get involved in the community and since they are into some business they should also religiously pay their taxes.

"Cebu City is a dynamic city, so I have nothing to teach in Cebu," Belmonte said in an interview before his speech when asked on what words of encouragement he could give to the Jaycees. Newly inducted Metro Cebu Jaycees president Ray Gabriel Salgado presented a plaque of recognition to Belmonte.

Since the founding of JCI Philippines 55 years ago, the organization continues to assume key roles in the international arena. Belmonte, who is a former General manager of Government Service Insurance System, is one of past JCI World President coming from the Philippine Jaycees. He was elected in international positions in 1976.

The Junior Chamber International Philippines is also known as Philippine Jaycees, Inc. It is a worldwide federation of young leaders and entrepreneurs offering opportunities in the four areas of business, individual, community and international development to develop the leadership skills, social responsibility, fellowship and entrepreneurship necessary to create positive change in young people.

Its mission is to contribute to the advancement of the global community by providing opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills, social responsibility and fellowship necessary to create positive change. It has over 6,000 young adults between 18 to 40 years old from 250 local organizations (LOMs) or chapters throughout the Philippine archipelago.
