Land row worsens in Moalboal town

-
The land dispute plaguing barangay Saavedra in Moalboal town for two years has worsen but provincial police director Vicente Loot instructed the police to maintain peace and order in the area.

Yesterday, reports reaching The Freeman said some residents in the barangay tried to destroy the fence around White Beach Resort despite the deployment of several security guards by the Tri-Island Holdings, Inc.

Loot, however, admitted that they could not intervene in the case because of the restraining order issued by the court and can only advise both parties to exercise their rights and bring their grievances to the court.

Two hand grenades were already found at the resort's premises occupied by at least 32 security guards. But they failed to explode, and the police believed that they just meant to scare the guards.

Some residents of Saavedra and of its adjacent barangays have been at odds with Tri-Island Holdings, Inc. over a 300-hectare property. The residents have claimed ownership to the land, which they said was passed on to them by their forefathers. - Gregg M. Rubio
