The Department of Agrarian Reform has distributed at least 622 certificates of land ownership, covering an area of 492 hectares, to at least 791 farmers from Carmen town.
The farmer beneficiaries are from barangays Cantumog, Cantipay, Hagnaya, Baring, Corte, Triumpo, Lower and Upper Natimaoan, Cantucong, Fuente, Luyang, Sac-on and Dawis Sur.
DAR-7 regional director Datu Yusoph Mama led the distribution of the certificates assisted by Carmen Mayor Virginio Villamor and some officials of the Department of Agrarian Reform.
Mama pointed out the farmers need not pay premiums for the land they received, but should settle their realty tax.
He further advised them to make their land productive not only for themselves but for their families and the community as well.
"Save your earnings, do not indulge in gambling or other vices, because if you do, your seasons earnings will go to naught in just a day. Not everybody is given the chance to have lands for free. You are all lucky, it's all yours now," Mama said.
This is the third time this year that certificates of land ownership were distributed in Carmen. DAR has already distributed over 1,000 hectares of land. More certificates will be distributed before the year ends. - Jasmin R. Uy
