Cop's gun falls, fires inside headquarters

-
A policeman assigned with the Security and Service Group is now in hot water after his service firearm he placed in his pocket accidentally went off inside their office yesterday morning.

SSG chief Mariano Natuel ordered an investigation on SPO1 Judito Llena to determine what lapses he may have committed.

"We are trained by the city government on firearms proficiency. Nganong gibutang man lang niya sa bulsa? Duna g'yuy lapses gamay kay luag gud na ang shorts (and) you are not supposed to place your gun sa bulsa," Natuel pointed out.

Natuel said that should it be found that Llena committed some lapses, he could be disarmed of his .45 cal. service firearm.

The incident happened past 10 p.m. when Llena arrived at the SSG office inside Camp Sotero Cabahug following a Physical Fitness Test.

Llena was seated a few meters away from SPO3 Gualberto Fuentes, the duty investigator who was encoding the table of contents of Llena's PFT differential.

"Nagliston siya sa iyang sapatos. Ang .45 naa sa iyang bulsa, pagduko niya nahu'g (ug) nibuto mga usa ka metro gikan nako. Nibanda sa locker diretso sa kisame," Fuentes recalled.

According to Natuel, it was fortunate that the locker was made of wood because had it been made of metal, the bullet would have ricocheted toward Fuentes instead of going up to the ceiling. - Ryan P. Borinaga
