Cop faces relief for sloppy work

A policeman assigned at the Dumanjug Police station is now in hot water after his own boss wants him relieved for alleged tardiness and for reporting to work drunk.
SPO1 Abel delos Santos is the 13th cop to be subjected to an investigation by the Provincial Intelligence and Investigation Bureau. The result of the investigation will serve as basis in the filing of administrative charges against him.
Dumanjug Police chief Carmelita Condevillamar told reporters yesterday that she would push for the relief of Delos Santos for his sloppy attitude towards work.
Condevillamar said that since she became police chief of Dumanjug seven months ago, she noticed that the cop rarely reports to work on time and has been found to be drunk a couple of times while on duty.
The cop's beha-vior prompted Condevillamar to call his attention last Wednesday night. The two, however, got into an argument after Delos Santos got irked for being reprimanded in front of new policemen who reported to the station that day.
This is the second time that delos Santos found himself in trouble with his direct superior.
In 2002, while he was assigned in the town of Barili, Delos Santos reportedly choked his superior, Insp. Larson Dechino after his attention was called for reporting to work drunk.
Cebu Provincial Police director Vicente Loot, in a separate interview yesterday, said that he will not only relieve Delos Santos but will also work for his dismissal from the service, saying such act is tantamount to insubordination.
However, Loot said that the policeman will also be given due process. - Flor Z. Perolina
