Bohol honors former guvs, businessmen

Former governors and businessmen who had contributed to the economic development of Bohol were honored last Friday during the 109th birth anniversary of former president Carlos P. Garcia.

Governor Erico Aumentado, Vice Governor Julius Caesar Herrera, and Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim led other government officials in feting the businessmen and former governors.

Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano, who attended the occasion, congratulated city officials for acknowledging the contribution of former governors and the business sector to the development of the province especially in the field of tourism.

Feted that day were former governors Rolando Butalid, Constancio Torralba, David Tirol, and Rene Relampagos.

Butalid was Bohol governor from l978 to 1986.Torralba was governor from l988 up to l992, and Tirol from l992 to l995. Relampagos, on the other hand, served the province from l995 to 2001.

Families and relatives of the late governors elected from 1901 up to l978 were also given awards by the committee.

The provincial government also acknowledged the support and contribution of businessmen in the province's development.

Among those acknowledged were Richard Uy of First Consolidated Bank, Palm Oil, and Homereach Foundation.

Marlito Uy of Alturas Group of Companies, Antonio "Ong Guat" Ong of Bohol Quality Corporation, and John U. Yap of Bohol Tropics Resort Club were also given recognition for their contributions. - Jose P. Sollano
