Talisay homeowners' group hits presence of hotel in subdivision

Residents of a subdivision in Talisay City are asking the city government to explain why a hotel, reportedly owned by a Japanese businessman, is being constructed in the subdivision.

Bensing Raguindin, president of Alpha Executive Homes Homeowners Association, wrote to Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez, expressing the organization's objection to the construction of a commercial establishment in their neighborhood. The group is also demanding for prompt action on their complaint.

Raguindin claims that Japanese businessman Hiroshi Aoki owns the hotel being constructed in the subdivision, which is classified as a residential area under the city's land use plan. He also requested the Talisay city government to check whether Aoki had been issued a business permit.

The hotel, called Alfa Club, has six bedrooms with individual bathrooms. A sign that says, "It is our noble hope and intention that the opening of this hotel will generate employment opportunities, among others, and thereby contribute to the activation of economy in this country," is reportedly placed at the hotel's entrance.

City administrator Aurora Econg said the points raised by the complainants are legitimate and should be addressed immediately.

"This is a serious matter which would greatly affect most the social and moral mileage of the Alpha Homes residents," she said.

Econg said the Office of the Mayor would call for a conference with the city planning office, and city engineering office. - Garry B. Lao
