2006 Talisay budget reaches P249 million

Next year's proposed budget for Talisay City is slightly bigger compared to the budget for this year.

This after Mayor Socrates Fernandez submitted to the City Council for approval the 2006 budget of P249.159 million, which has an increase of only P24,035,460.06 from this year's budget of P225,124,155.38.

In a six-page summary, the biggest chunk of the 2006 budget goes to the General Services with P30,556,244. Salaries of the city officials and employees come from the General Services.

The appropriation for electricity at the City Hall, plaza and public markets was pegged at P19.550 million while the Economic Services have a share of P11.2 million.

The local calamity fund has a P11,593,724.40 budget while Social Services gets P32.1 million. About P8 million has been set aside for the solid waste management.

Fernandez said the city is also appropriating around P8 million for the purchase of lots for the resettlement of squatters in the city. Maintenance and operating expenses for garbage collection have a budget of P6.6 million while the city social welfare and development gets P4 million.

The mayor's office gets only P5,384,471.66 while the Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod was given P6,967,049.76.

The City Veterinary Office has P884,970.36 while the legal department corners P1.1 million. The two offices are under the Office of the Mayor. - Garry B. Lao
