Fire Destroys ten houses in Catmon
October 31, 2005 | 12:00am
Ten houses were destroyed by a fire that hit barangay San Jose, Catmon town, yesterday morning. It was blamed on faulty electrical wiring.
SPO2 Rex Menchavez of the Catmon police yesterday said that the fire started at 9:30 a.m. but the report only reached firemen of neighboring towns at about 9:50 a.m. and they immediately placed it at general alarm. This because of strong winds and the delay of the report, houses in the area of the fire were also made of light materials.
Based on the investigation conducted by the Sogod Fire department which they endorsed to the Catmon police station, the fire started in the house of Oscar Nuñeza, a retired public school teacher, due to faulty electrical wiring.
Menchavez said that it was the firemen from Sogod, Danao, Liloan, Bogo and Compostela who responded to the alarm as the town does not have its own fire station.
No one was hurt during the incident and the damage to property has yet to be determined by fire investigators.
All its victims are now temporarily living in Pasic Building located near the parish church and are receiving food assistance from Catmon Mayor Estrella Aribal and the Department of Social Welfare and Development of the said town. - Flor Z. Perolina
