Freeman photographer bags 2nd prize in Talisay photo tilt

-
The FREEMAN photojournalist Joy Torrejos bagged second prize of the inasal-based category photo contest of the first Inasal Festival in Talisay City last October 15.

The awarding ceremony was held at the Talisay City Social Hall yesterday afternoon.

Torrejos' winning photo shows a man eating hanging rice with lechon infront of him. It was taken during the "kumbira sa inasal" right after the grand parade.

This is not the first time Torrejos won a photo contest.

In 2002, he won fourth place at the Sinulog festival. He also landed eighth place at a Milo photo contest in 2004 and was also grand prize winner of the Mantawi Festival photo contest in Mandaue City last May.

Talisay City planning officer Christine Homez said the photo contest had two categories, the open category with nine participants and the inasal-based category with seven.

The photo contest was open to amateur and professional photographers of all ages with the theme: Bahanding Talisaynon: Ugmaron ug Palambuon.

In the inasal-based category, Robert Riethmueller took home P7,000 for the first prize and P3,000 for the third prize, Torrejos took home P5,000.

In the open category Aldo Nelbert Banaynal, Jeamarie Lorico and Julius Tabliga won first, second and third prize, respectively.

Barangay Poblacion won as best decorated barangay, Menina's residence as best decorated house and Gaisano Fiesta Mall as best decorated establishment.

The best inasal float went to Bacalan's clan (kaliwat-based), Kaykens (mangangasal sa Talisay-based), barangay Pooc (barangay-based), Talisay Aqua City Gun Club (NGO's), Psych Concepts School for Special Education (school-based) and Sirlitz (business-based). - Garry B. Lao
