1 die in collision of "habal-habals"

Two motorcycles-for-hire, locally known as "habal-habal," figured in a collision Saturday night in barangay Liboron, Carcar town, killing one of the drivers.

The fatality was identified as a certain Teejay Dayo, 21, who died on the way to hospital.

Dayo was driving Marilou Lanas, 20, to barangay Liboron from sitio Tindahan in barangay Canasuhan on his Kawasaki Aura motorcycle when the accident occurred.

The collision took place on a bridge in Liboron. Another motorcycle, driven by Rener Rama, 25, with Michael Ragas, 29, Marcelino Cabungcal, 25, as his passengers, was also crossing the same bridge at the time.

The impact threw everybody in different directions. Except for Dayo who was taken to the Carcar District Hospital, the rest sustained injuries and were taken to different hospitals in Cebu City.

Carcar police said the two drivers were not licensed to drive. - Flor Z.Perolina
