Woman shot by neighbor for 'practicing witchcraft'

A woman is now in critical condition after an angry neighbor shot her inside her house in sitio Hillside, barangay Bakhawan, Daanbantayan town last Sunday afternoon for her alleged practice of witchcraft that reportedly caused the death of the suspect's father last week. Bernardita Andrade, 51, a resident of the said place, was shot by her neighbor, identified as Bernard Santosidad, after the victim was accused to have caused the death of Santosidad's father through the practice of witchcraft.

Andrade was hit in the upper portion of her left arm and the bullet exited at the back portion of her body.

She was immediately rushed to the Daanbantayan District Hospital, but was later transferred to a hospital here in Cebu City. The suspect is nowhere to be found.

Daanbantayan Police chief Melchor Batucan said that even if the suspect is at large, they have already filed a frustrated murder case against him. - Flor Z. Perolina
