Talisay lechon dealers oppose public slaughterhouse policy

Some 30 members of Talisay City Inasal Makers Association are protesting the new policy mandating that all animals be slaughtered at the city's public slaughterhouse.

The policy, according to association president Fe Abrogueña, is affecting business even if the city council has already set guidelines for the use of the new P50-million slaughterhouse.

In her September 12 letter, Abrogueña asked Mayor Socrates Fernandez to exempt his group from the implementation of the policy, since this would affect the flow of its distribution. Supporting Abrogueña's statement, lechon dealer Cecelia Tibon said that "Maapektohan ang among delivery tungod kay maghuwat pa mi pila ka oras una pa ihawon ang among baboy. Usahay dili matarong og limpyo ang baboy sa ihawan tungod sa pagdali-dali sa mga mangingihaw didto."

Fernandez yesterday wrote Abrogueña to inform her that he wants to meet with members of the association on September 21. Located in barangay Mohon, the new slaughterhouse started its operation in May. - Garry B. Lao
