Lapu-Lapu to get 50 sodium bulbs from Cebu City

Cebu City will donate 50 sodium bulbs to Lapu-Lapu City.

During its regular session yesterday afternoon, the city council approved two proposed resolutions granting the mayor to execute, enter into and sign two deeds of donation in behalf of the city government.

One deed of donation is between the Cebu City government and barangay Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City for the 20 sets of sodium lights and another deed with the municipal government itself for the remaining 30 sets.

The act is an apparent show of gratitude to Lapu-Lapu City for having been cooperative with the plans and programs of Cebu City, specifically when it gave up its supposed claim to a portion of the much contested 295-hectare South Reclamation Project.

When Talisay City first made its claim on a portion of SRP that allegedly encroaches on what used to be its territorial waters before, Cordova town Mayor Arleigh Sitoy said his town can make a better claim than Talisay City if it would be based on proximity.

But for the sake of unity and oneness, Sitoy gave up his claim, which earned Osmeña's deference.

It has been since then that Osmeña openly expressed favorable projects and programs that work for both the two local government units while he lambasted Talisay City officials for their ingratitude.

Talisay, a fledgling city in the south, was a recipient of 500 street lamps in the past, among others, but the favors extended by Cebu City under the Big Brother program were cut and the local sister-city relationship was subsequently strained due to Talisay's claim. - Cristina C. Birondo
