City declares Barangay Luz calamity area

So that further aid can be given to 36 families left homeless by a fire last Saturday, the city council has declared Barangay Luz a calamity area for the barangay to be able to utilize its calamity fund.
The move to declare the barangay a calamity area was an offshoot of a resolution passed by the barangay's council to enable the barangay to use its calamity fund to give material aid to the affected families.
The barangay resolution was signed by barangay councilmen Nida Cabrera, Alito Jimmy Lepatan, Renato Labrador, Rian Tante, Isidro Benatiro, Joshua Ybañez, and barangay captain Nemesio Pagador Jr.
The fire at sitio City Central razed 31 houses and that the Cebu City Disaster Coordinating Council has confirmed the necessity for the barangay to be placed under the state of calamity.
"The CCDCC is recommending for the passage of a resolution to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, declaring the area at Sitio City Central, Barangay Luz, this city, as under the state of calamity in order for the calamity fund to be used for the expenses incurred for the food assistance, relief and rehabilitation of the City of Cebu," the CCDCC resolution reads. - Joeberth M.
