Cebu Provincial Board member Agnes Magpale wants local officials in Danao City and neighboring towns to look for solutions to solve the conflict between the Alpha Kappa Rho and Tau Gamma fraternities in the city, aside from implementing curfew hours for minors.
Magpale said she has received reports that a number of deaths in Danao City and neighboring towns in Cebu's fifth district could be traced to the conflict of these rival fraternities. The deaths led officials in Carmen town ito mpose curfew hours on minors last month.
Magpale said back then death incidents relative to the conflict between Akrho and Tau Gamma only happened in Cebu City, but lately it has been observed that the rift has spread to other cities and municipalities.
She said local officials in coordination with the police should provide a solution to the alarming incidents of fraternity-related crimes.
She said she had already informed Mayor Ramon "Nito" Durano III about the problem and that the mayor has promised to call for a dialog with the warring groups.
She also asked police chiefs in northern Cebu to submit a list of incidents related to the rivalry of the fraternities.
Meanwhile, Danao City schools division superintendent Michael Cono said he has already directed all principals to coordinate with officers and members of Parents Teachers Community Associations in thwarting any attempt by fraternities to recruit students.
