With the onslaught of La Niña phenomenon, councilor Gerardo Carillo is pushing for the approval of the budget for the rescue equipment to be used during emergency cases.
Earlier, Mayor Tomas Osmeña authorized the purchase of rescue equipment to be used by the City Disaster and Coordinating Council amounting to P703,688 from the city calamity fund.
However, the allocation has yet to be approved by the city council, which has yet to discuss Carillo's resolution in its next session on Wednesday.
The items to be purchased include chainsaws, rubber boots, flashlights, megaphones, police lines, two-way portable radios, a fast charger, leather gloves, nylon rope, video camera, static rope and tubular tape.
Meanwhile, Carillo sought the approval of the council of the move to welcome monetary donations from Gear Up Foundation Philippines, an organization engaged in raising funds to support missions that extend financial assistance through equipment donations.
The organization is also engaged in providing advanced rescue training courses to third world countries in need of upgrading their firefighting and emergency response capabilities. - Joeberth M. Ocao
