Maambong: Avail of PUJ discounts

Provincial Board Member Victor Maambong is urging students and senior citizens to avail of the 20 percent discount on fares in public utility jeepneys.

This despite the agreement reached during the dialogue with Provincial Bus Operators and local government officials with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, that the agreed fare of P5.50 for the first five kilometers and P.85 for every succeeding kilometer is already at discounted price.

In a resolution, Maambong supports the move of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, which encourages senior citizens and students to pay only the P5.00 as minimum fare.

It is but right for the elderly and students to invoke their right as mandated by law, Maambong said.

The resolution only refers to jeepneys without buses being mentioned.

From the start of the year 2005, prices of gasoline had increased several times adding up positive speculations the price for a liter could reach P50 for every liter by December.
