Stray bullet hits woman at disco

An 18-year-old woman is now in critical condition after a stray bullet hit her in the stomach during a free-for-all involving rival fraternities Alpha Kappa Rho and Tau Gamma Phi at a discotheque inside the Lipata Central School in Minglanilla town yesterday dawn.

Jelly Cañada, 18, of barangay Tungkil was immediately taken to the Minglanilla District Hospital. SPO3 Remy Elascion of the Minglanilla police yesterday said his office had received a call from a concerned citizen on the incident started by a certain "Ian" who was believed to be an Akrho member.

The caller said he heard a single gun burst and saw the woman who was dancing in the middle of the crowd falling to the ground.

When the police arrived at the crime scene, none of the suspects was still there and none of the witnesses can tell the police who the perpetrators were.

The Minglanilla police are now conducting a follow-up operation to find out who shot the woman. This is the second time that a shooting incident had occurred in Minglanilla. The town is to celebrate its annual fiesta on August 21 and 22.

Last Friday night, a man died while two others were injured when a drunk man shot a person who reportedly made fun of him while he was watching a concert at the town plaza. - Flor Z. Perolina
