Lapu-Lapu council oks anti-jaywalking measure

The Lapu-Lapu City council has approved the proposed ordinance known as the "Anti-jaywalking Ordinance" which aims to regulate crossing of streets and highways.

Vice Mayor Norma Patalinghug and members of the city council approved the ordinance based on the recommendation of the City Traffic Management System.

The ordinance states that Lapu-Lapu City is a developing city and with traffic is expected to worsen.

The city council said that it is a vital concern of the city government to create solutions to traffic congestion and minimize traffic accidents.

The city council has authorized the CTMS to determine which streets and highways should be considered as anti-jaywalking zone.

Under the ordinance, violators shall pay an administrative fine of P100. In case the violator cannot pay the subscribed penalty, he would have to render community service for two hours.
