Cops caught playing cards face probe

- Jose P. Sollano -
Two policemen and a civilian driver who works for the Mobile Patrol Unit of the Mandaue Police Command will be investigated for allegedly playing cards while on duty.

The investigation, to be conducted by the Internal Affairs Office of the Mandaue Police Command, will focus on the violation committed by Police Officers I Bruce Gairanod and Vicente Casco. Civilian driver Rogelio Paraiso would be separately investigated.

Last Thursday afternoon, Superintendent Emmanuel Ughoc, city police command deputy chief for administration and chief of the Mobile Patrol Unit, was informed that two police patrol cars were seen under the unfinished building of Uniwide at reclamation area in barangay Tipolo.

The same information said the policemen onboard the vehicle and the driver were also seen playing cards.

Ughoc went to the place and saw that the two Terrano patrol cars were parked nearby while Gairanod and Casco and civilian driver Paraiso were playing.

He also saw PO2 Renato Albuera inside one of the patrol cars while civilian driver Danilo Rizon was watching the three playing cards locally known as "tong-its."

One more member of the team, PO2 Giovanni Gacusan, was not around but would still be investigated for not reporting for work.

Allegedly confiscated from the policemen were one deck of cards and P93.

Mandaue City has rented cars for the police for patrolling.
