Case Of Mistaken Identity?: 2 men shoot college stude

- Ryan P. Borinaga -
Two men on a motorcycle shot a college student Friday afternoon along Uytengzu Street in barangay Sambag I for no apparent reason.

The place is alleged to be teeming with Tau Gamma Fraternity members but the injured Rod Crismin Escoro, 21, of Matalum, Leyte denied being a member of any fraternity.

Also hurt during the shooting was a babysitter, a bullet grazing her abdomen while with her 6-month-old ward. The baby was unhurt although both were taken to hospital.

Police said the Escoro's attackers rode a blue enduro-type motorcycle. After one of the two men fired at Escoro, they fled toward Osmeña Boulevard.

Police theorize it could be a case of mistaken identity.

Recently, police, barangay officials of both Sambag I and II , and administrators of nearby schools discussed ways to avert fraternity-related violence after an inactive member of Alpha Kappa Rho was killed along Aznar Road reportedly perpetrated by rival fraternity Tau Gamma members. The case is pending before the City Prosecutor's Office.
