Militant group hits street party for GMA

-
The Gloria Step down Movement lambasted the street party held last night at the Provincial Capitol in support of embattled President Gloria Arroyo.

GSM spokeswoman Kaira Alburo said the street party was nothing but a useless idea in these times when Filipinos are gripped with hunger and poverty because of Arroyo's alleged corruption and misrule.

"To waste the people's money on a uselessly extravagant activity is an insult to the Cebuanos who have long been deprived of the basic local services," she said.

The members of the movement also held a luncheon party yesterday infront of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where they ate salted and dried fish and sardines as a sign that the country is in crisis.

Alburo added that since they adhere to the principles of democracy, they respect the opinion of others who do not echo the call of Arroyo's ouster but decry the brazen use of public funds for political interests.

"There are better uses of the people's taxes like setting up of hospitals and classrooms, delivering social services and providing much needs facilities to public schools and medical centers rather than spending these in defense of a corrupt president who has long lost her moral authority to govern the nation," Alburo added.

"For as long as Arroyo stays in Malacañang, the more people will suffer. So instead of uniting to hold a street party, the people should be uniting to pursue their agenda for genuine political and economic reforms," she also said.
