244 defective scales seized

Buying from ambulant vendors may not necessarily be cheap after the city's market authority seized over 244 defective weighing scales from various ambulant vendors in different areas in the city.

In a formal communication to market authority chairman Francisco Fernandez, Acting Market Administrator Elpidio dela Victoria Jr. reported that the Market Operations Division has seized 244 defective weighing scales from April 1 to June 30, 2005.

These defective weighing scales were seized by a six-man team of the Market Operations Division and confiscated from ambulant vendors selling vegetables along Calderon, Manalili and Plaridel Streets; from dried fish, fish and meat vendors selling their goods along Escaño Street; from ambulant vendors selling fish at the Pasil Market and fish vendors vending their goods along El Filibusterismo Street.

Eighty of these weighing scales are from the vendors along Calderon, Manalili and Plaridel Streets; 62 from Escaño Streets; 53 from the Pasil Market; and 49 from the El Filibusterismo Street.

The confiscated defective weighing scales will be subjected to destruction infront of the public.
