The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has lauded the Regional Development Council 7 for approving a resolution adopting and supporting the Cebu Plus Tourism Roadmap during its full council meeting last July 1, 2005.
RDC7 Co-Chairman Robert Go and the CCCI president led the approval of the resolution. Cebu Plus Roadmap is a tourism initiative to promote 15 tourism clusters that are just an hour of travel from Cebu City with Cebu serving as the hub and the rest of the clusters complementing one another in promoting tourism.
During the last Tourism Core Group meeting held at Shangri-la's Mactan Island Resort, where the roadmap was launched, Governor Gwen Garcia and Department of Tourism Assistant Secretary Phineas Alburo endorsed the new tourism roadmap as part of the Tourism Core Group's vision of getting five million tourists by 2010.
The roadmap is also designed to encourage more investments for the tourism industry and its related fields. Another resolution on "Friendship Bridges" project was endorsed during the RDC 7 full council meeting which proposes to link Negros Oriental and Bohol to Cebu as a knee-jerk effect of Cebu Plus presentation. Go said this project was designed to ultimately make Cebu the number one tourism hub in Southeast Asia.
