Talisay government prefers to hire city residents

Contrary to what an opposition councilor claims, the Talisay City government prefers to hire jobless residents in the city, according to city human resource management officer Emily Cabrera yesterday.

Councilor Alan Bucao earlier said that there is a substantial number of non-Talisay City residents who are presently working in City Hall, adding that he wants the management to show the list of City Hall employees and their addresses.

But Cabrera said the city government gives preference to city residents who are applying for positions at the City Hall. In fact, she said the city now has the most number of hired job order employees compared to the time of then mayor Eduardo Gullas.

Under the administration of Fernandez, the city hired 740 job order personnel and 288 regular employees compared to the 385 job order personnel and 270 regular employees hired during the time of Gullas.

"Based on the bio-data and the information they have submitted to us, they are all residents of Talisay City," Cabrera said.

The Local Government Code stated that local government units must promote full employment among their residents.
