1 dead in road accident

One was killed while an eatery was totally wrecked when a passenger jeepney reportedly ran out of control and crashed into a multicab along the national highway of barangay Poblacion in Compostela town early yesterday morning.

PO2 Oliver Rondina of the Compostela Police yesterday said that a Blue Isuzu passenger jeepney bound for Cebu City, and driven by Rene Martil, 30, a resident of barangay Binaliw, Danao City reportedly lost control and bumped into a Suzuki multicab.

Rondina said that the multicab, driven by one Ceferino Salino, 52, a resident of barangay Cogon, Compostela town, was about to turn left towards the corner of Murillo street when the passenger jeepney bumped into it.

The impact had thrown the multicab a distance away hitting a tricycle driven by a certain Marcial Valencia.

Salino, the driver of the multicab was declared dead on arrival when brought to the Danao General Hospital, while the drivers of the passenger jeepney and the tricycle only sustained minor injuries and were later on dispensed from the hospital.

The passenger jeepney also hit a roadside eatery owned by a certain Maria Theresa Gestopa who was also brought to hospital along with her four-year-old daughter. Both sustained minor injuries.

Martil surrendered to the police while cases of homicide resulting to multiple physical injuries and damage to properties are now being prepared against him.
