Management issues to be tackled today

At least 40 representatives from Cebu-based companies will tackle various labor-management issues during the second general assembly of the Cebu City Tripartite Industrial Peace Council at the Cebu Grand Hotel today.

Councilor Edu Rama, labor and employment committee chairman, said among the topics to be discussed in the assembly are the "dos and don'ts" in sub-contracting, orientation on tripartite industrial peace council, and labor-management cooperation.

On sub-contracting matters, Labor Standards Division chief Lilia Estillore, of the Department of Labor and Employment will conduct the seminar and workshop.

National Conciliation and Mediation Board director Isidro Cepeda, for his part, will orient TIPC members on labor-management cooperation.

Then a representative of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board will update TIPC members on the latest development on wages.

TIPC has also geared up projects to help promote industrial peace, such as further training with the Association of Accredited Voluntary Arbitrators of Central Visayas. Others are bowling and badminton tournaments, and medical missions.

Since yesterday, at least 40 people have already confirmed their participation to the assembly but this number may reach 50 today, said Rama, adding that the affair has been aimed at fostering better relations among council members.

TICP's prominent members include the Gaisano Group of Companies, Trans-Asia Shipping Lines, and George and Peter Lines.
