More classrooms for Talisay sought

For lack of funds, Talisay City councilor Ritchel Bacaltos is seeking the assistance of national government officials for the construction of additional classrooms and for the purchase of materials and equipment to enhance classroom instruction.

Bacaltos, chairperson of the council's committee on education, asked Senators Francis Pangilinan, Juan Flavier, and Ralph Recto to appropriate P1.5 million each from their priority development assistance fund for the primary and secondary public schools in Talisay.

Two weeks ago, the Local School Board approved a P2.7-million second supplemental budget, P1.1 million of which was allocated for 63 primary school teachers and P936,000 for 52 secondary school teachers representing their salaries from July to September this year.

The board also approved P147,000 for the completion of the construction of a building at the Linao Elementary School. The board also allocated P22,500 for 50 armchairs each in the elementary schools of Linao, San Isidro, Talisay Central, Jaclupan, Tabunok, Tangke, San Roque, Mohon and Maghaway. While P45,000 was approved for 100 armchairs for Laray Elementary School.
