"Grupo Sining Angono sa Cebu"

CEBU, Philippines —  Art’s propensity as a medium for communication goes beyond decorative values. The fact is most known to artists – divergent yet alike artists are, or from different locales, they tend to espouse similar worldviews regarding their different arts. This is exemplified in the exhibit “Grupo Sining Angono sa Cebu,” ongoing at the third level of the Ayala Center Cebu.

The exhibit, which runs until Saturday, June 8, features artworks by talents from the municipality of Angono of Rizal province in Luzon – the ascribed “art capital of the Philippines.” It is mainlined by paintings by Jovito Andres, Dino Blanco, Nani Reyes, Berny Supsupin and Charlie Val, who frame vistas that dominate the creative consciousness of artists from Angono.

The pieces on display set a contemporary tone to Filipino life-in-the-countryside scenes, base-banded by the modal color spectrum that’s closely identified with modernism, only refreshed and made novel by masterful incorporations of various contemporary styles. In a manner of speaking, the show reenrolls old school styles in new school curriculums.

Presented by Cebu Artists Inc. and the Ayala Center Cebu, “Grupo Sining Angono sa Cebu” is a two-part show – where works of Angono artists are shown in Cebu, and then where artworks by Cebuano talents will be featured in Angono.
