A new dating app makes waves

THE TECH CIRCUIT - Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

Apps like OkCupid and Tinder have been making waves in the arena of digital matchmaking and dating, but a new app-and-service suite has recently taken the arena by storm in its not-so-conventional approach to finding a match – it lets a user’s friends find a potential match for a user.

Dubbed “Ship,” the app-and-service suite basically adds an extra “social media” layer to the dating/matchmaking app premise, as it allows a member to involve the inputs of his/her friends in picking out a potential date.

Though not exactly rooted on having a user relinquish control on who to and not to meet up, reception over the app’s approach to matchmaking has generally been positive, making “Ship” a practical alternative to OkCupid and Tinder.

Twitter rolls out “Original Tweeter” tag

Over the weekend, Twitter slowly rolled out a new tagging system for the micro-blogging platform, one which identifies the posts or replies of the original poster of a Twitter post.

Simply dubbed the “Original Tweeter” tag, the purpose of the tag is to further enhance conversations that may arise from a post by giving prominence to who the original author of a post is.

Invariably, the tag’s implementation aims to curb questionable Twitter accounts (like those posing to be someone of prominence) from “hijacking” a thread with duplicitous links to questionable websites and the like.

As the feature has been rolled out to a small percentage of iOS and Android users, not everyone is likely to be able to see the tag in action to date, but as it is further cascaded to the general Twitter universe in the days and weeks to come, it’s well on its way into becoming a given feature when it comes to engagements and interactions in Twitter. More information on the matter is hosted on Twitter’s official online channels.
