Consul General Li’s Dinner Reception

In celebration of his assumption of office, Consul General Jia Li tendered a big dinner reception at the Grand Ballroom of Marco Polo Plaza on November 28, last year.

The new Consul General speaks English fluently. In fact, in his speech, he spoke in English fluidly, not a word in Chinese. He said, and I quote: “Since I took office, I have met many new friends. The importance attached by the Philippine government to China-Philippines relations, the friendship between Chinese and Filipinos, the important rule which overseas Chinese community played in promoting Chinese culture and China-Philippines relations have made me truly understand the deep friendship of China and the Philippines!”

This year marks the 40th anniversary of China`s reform and opening up. This was part of Consul General Jia Li`s speech. After dinner, the Consul General flitted from table to table and had photos taken with the hundreds of guests who were invited to the dinner reception.
